In a place far far away we had The trip of a lifetime.
As a world traveler (I have over 4 million miles with Delta Airlines). I have stayed in so many wonderful homes and hotels that to get me excited would take a lot.
As a surprise Christmas gift, my wife Sandy decided we were going to spend some of her inheritance by going to the UK and spending a long week together in Scotland. I was born and raised in the UK. We would attend the world’s finest New Year’s Eve celebration. Hogmanay is the wildest and greatest, and we would be there for it.
Sandy found the Pilrig House that is situated a very short walk from the city center of Edinburgh, and even shorter walk to Leith. We had the 2-bedroomed Park Apartment.
Pilrig is a 17th-century Scottish house (built in 1638), it was the home of Robert Louis Stevenson’s mother’s family. The place is mentioned in his novels: Kidnapped and Catriona. You can feel his presence in the house.
It was the coldest winter in history as I recall but that didn’t matter. The two owners Debbie and Philip made us welcomed and warm with hospitality and knowledge of the area. Philip is a storehouse of info on the actual site the house is built on. The House is set in a beautiful park and the apartment allows you to sit in the box window and just gaze out.
Snow added to the magnificence of the view and the cold was kept at bay by the warmth of the fireplace and the two proprietors. You are not really sure what to expect when you sign up online for a property but let me assure you this was a fantastic decision on Sandy’s part. Even in the winter, you can experience the peacefulness of the garden. I am a pretty good photographer and found so much to work within and around the house. The apartment allows you to use the main entrance from the park and that in itself is remarkable. The rooms, the furniture, the amenities, the little extra touches, the views and the location all make the Pilrig House a gem among gems but it’s the friendly and helpful owners who add the warmth that the real travelers relish.
We took advantage of the local restaurants which were suggested by Debbie and became regulars at a few, which had simply scrumptious food.
A house is not a home until you add folk to the equation. Pilrig House is a historical and adventurous property but it truly becomes a home away from home when Debbie and Philip are added to the picture.
Sandy and I have made promises to return to Pilrig House and have recommended it to everyone who says they are going to Scotland.
This is a wonderful, cosy, spotless and very beautiful apartment, with flawless Wi-Fi, DVDs, squirrels and a family of foxes to boot! Will definitely visit again, if only to listen to the absolute silence at night...a relief for (Amsterdam) inner-city dwellers! Owners are exceedingly friendly, and very willing to help. Despite its country feel, the apartment is very near town, easy walking distance! So...do not hesitate and book this lovely place, before someone else does!
We received a warm welcome and the owner’s local knowledge meant we didn’t have to trawl through any guidebooks to find somewhere to eat. It had all the luxuries of a 4-star hotel and felt so homely.
If you are heading to Edinburgh, Pilrig House is an exceptional place to stay, clean, inviting and stocked with every item one could imagine needing. There aren’t enough words to describe the warm welcome, cleanliness of the apartment, beautiful gardens or ease of getting around Edinburgh from this location.
My Summer 2012 was spent travelling throughout the UK. I stayed in London, Cambridge, Dublin, Glasgow, and many other locations throughout England, Scotland and Ireland. My stay at Pilrig House was by far my favourite. I fell in love with the cottage, the proprietors, Edinburgh itself, and hated to leave. The hospitality was above and beyond the call of duty. I felt entirely at home and had Debbie and Philip to turn to with any questions or advice. I learned so much from them about Edinburgh and Scotland in general. The cottage decor was so to my taste that I took photos and hope to duplicate it in my own home. From the windows you can watch birds, squirrels, and little foxes play in the lush floral gardens. I highly recommend Pilrig House and that you stay for awhile because you won’t want to leave!
It was a perfect stay – and we hope not our last. "Pilrig" is a new & important word in our vocabulary. Debbie and Philip, you have two more fans!
The apartment was roomy, comfortable, very clean, and well equipped; every detail attended to. Complimentary tea, coffee, chocolates (yummy!), fresh fruit, flowers and organic milk ensured we could begin our stay as though we were at home.
My daughter and I stayed in the Park Apartment at Pilrig House and it was a first-class experience from beginning to end. The apartment was well supplied with everything from DVDs to guide books and maps and very comfortable beds. It was spotlessly clean and has a beautiful view over the park. The whole experience way exceeded our expectations.
We obviously did our homework before arriving but always take with a grain of salt pictures and postings from a lodging’s web site. Go to Pilrig House’s website, look and read. What you see and what you read is, if anything, understated.
We stayed in the Garden Apartment and couldn’t have wished for a nicer place to stay. The hospitality was fantastic and so was the apartment. The attention to detail was exemplary. It was better than a home from home. All of this within walking distance from the beautiful city centre.
The location was great, the apartment was immaculate - it truly felt like a home away from home. Every little detail was included. We’ve stayed at other places on past trips to Europe, and none matched Pilrig house for comfort, features, and friendliness.
The facility was more than we had hoped for – decor, location and setting were all added value to our trip. Our hosts went the extra mile with information and availability. It was like staying in our own castle with tour guides at our disposal.
This is a far more authentic visit to Edinburgh than any hotel can give you. You really have the feel of staying in a historic home in Edinburgh. The home is perfectly kept and sits on a lovely park, all about a 10-15 minute walk from Princes Street.
Top-class accommodation is a must after a tiring drive, and this is what we got... Pilrig House has been restored and turned into three top-class apartments. Each is furnished to the highest standard.
The apartments have a peaceful view of the well-kept gardens and overlook the large park. Pilrig was the perfect place to soak up the history of the city.
Offering a luxury home-from-home in Edinburgh is Pilrig House... it has been transformed into three deluxe apartments. It has won all sorts of awards for its present owners and offers a great base from which to explore the city and beyond.

Pilrig House is within walking distance of the city and we found it the most delightful and interesting place to stay. Everything is of the highest standard. The owners Debbie and Philip Martin offer a level of generous hospitality rarely experienced...

Have you ever booked a holiday, only to discover that the hotel looks nothing like it did in the brochure? Me too - except this was a break where the brochure did not do the accommodation justice. The phrase ’hosts with the most’ could well have been coined with Debbie and Philip in mind. It’s easy to see why Pilrig House was a finalist in the 2008 Scottish Thistle Awards (and winner 2009). Don’t take my word for it though. Have a look at www.tripadvisor.com; I challenge you to find a single negative review.

Staying here wouldn’t really be like turning up in ’’holiday accommodation’’, more like visiting a friend’s home - exactly as Philip and Debbie intended it. When you’re inside, there’s a peculiar timelessness to the space… Pilrig House is within walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh, yet it’s completely tranquil.
I could therefore not resist the invitation to visit a property that has more than its fair share of added ingredients. It is part of an historic house mentioned in the novels by Robert Louis Stevenson that has risen like a phoenix from the ashes… and overlooks an extensive park. It is Pilrig House. An impressive Palladian staircase leads to double oak doors of the portico entrance at first-floor level facing Pilrig Park. …One of the continuing appeals of the apartment… is the feeling of being in a rural setting, which is unusual in a city, and enhances the atmosphere.
So long as houses such as Pilrig survive, the past can never be forgotten or erased. The setting is superb, with views over the park to Arthur’s Seat. As a rare survivor form another age, it clearly has a tale to tell.
A number of self-catering apartments are springing up around Scotland’s capital. And, the pick of the bunch is Pilrig. The advantage of having your own comfy and homey apartment is that you feel like you’re living in the city centre rather than in a hotel in the city. All credit to Pilrig’s owners, Philip and Debbie Martin, then, for perfecting the skill of being on hand to guide and help and to offer a warm and personalised service while staying discretely in the background or, should you wish, out of the way altogether.
You suspect that it would be as welcoming winter as it is in summer. To be able to accommodate us with such space and in such comfort so close to a major city centre was a luxury that we would want to repeat again soon.
It’s an excellent way to experience Edinburgh fully - and a great way to feel that Edinburgh is home.
My wife and I recently spent 4 days in Edinburgh in Pilrig House. Without exception, this was one of the best places at which we have stayed.

I stayed in the Balfour apartment with my parents and girlfriend for a week. The lounge overlooks a lovely park and has a very peaceful and homely feel. I can’t say enough about this place. It really is a home from home. The owners Debbie and Phillip couldn’t be more helpful and really made us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend Pilrig House to anyone looking for something a little bit special.
Stayed in Pilrig House for 5 days for a wedding in Edinburgh. The one bedroom garden apartment was perfect. The location is on Pilrig Park, so much nicer to step out into a park than a parking lot. The apt was lovely with high-end amenities. I cannot say enough about the location and our hosts.

I stayed at Pilrig House for three months in 2011, from February-May - while I was working in Edinburgh. I loved it. I spent half the time in the Garden Apartment and half in the Balfour. It was enchanting. I especially loved sitting in the window boxes looking at beautiful Pilrig Park and seeing the seasons change. Pilrig House is convenient to the city and Leith. It is quiet, with nice neighbours. The decor is delightful. It was a fabulous base for me and I thoroughly recommend it.
We loved our stay with Pilrig House. The apartment was lovely and had everything we could need. And it was so nice to be able to step outside to a garden and park (vs a busy street). It was a short walk to town and the apartment came with parking. We were very happy with our choice.

I stayed in the one bedroom Garden Flat which was extremely well laid out and quite spacious. The flat was absolutely spotless and believe me I am extremely fussy. Two things I’ve realized: You can’t fully enjoy Edinburgh in only 4 days. Also, I couldn’t imagine a nicer, more friendly place to stay than Pilrig House. I never generally bother with reviews figuring that what one person may enjoy another won’t. However I can’t see anything that anyone could fault about this establishment, except for one important thing, you won’t want to leave. Thank you again Debbie for making a single female traveller feel so welcome, so respected and so secure.
Everything was incredible at The Pilrig House. Pilrig house was large, clean and beautifully decorated. There was not one thing missing...the owners had literally thought of everything a guest could need.
- Pdxfamily3, Portland, Oregon
Believe all these reviews - Pilrig House simply can’t be beaten. Everything about the apartment was perfect ... the location ideal ... and hosts Debbie and Philip have got to be two of the nicest people on the planet.
The beds are extremely comfortable, the linens plush and it is very quiet. Beautiful house overlooking a park. I could sit in the window seat and watch as people walked their dogs or jogged through the park. Phillip is a very kind host. He went over and above the call of duty to help us. I wholeheartedly recommend Pilrig House.
Pilrig House was a complete delight - tranquil, beautifully furnished and equipped, with attention to every detail. And a wonderful warm welcome from the owners, Philip and Debbie. If you’re heading to Edinburgh, I’d strongly recommend staying there.
The apartments are wonderfully comfortable, exquisitely furnished and an absolute delight after a hard day’s sightseeing. They are right in beautiful Pilrig Park and are very quiet, but the city centre is only minutes away. But better even than the apartments are your hosts Debbie and Philip - warm, kind, amusing, helpful and a fund of knowledge about what to see and do. Highly, highly recommended.
The apartment was so bright and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the beautiful park just outside our front door. It was perfect for Julia’s daily runs. Philip, thanks for the wonderful tour and your extensive knowledge of the history of the area.
Debbie and Phillip were delightful. It is an easy walk to all the beautiful sights in Edinburgh. The home is situated in a picturesque park. Pilrig House has incredible gardens and the apartments were a good size and offered wonderful accommodation. We spent almost a month in Great Britain and Pilrig House was definitely our loveliest stay! I give it 10 stars!
The location is excellent, between the centres of Edinburgh and Leith, and we couldn’t say enough about the luxury of the apartment, with all the treats on arrival and the lovely furnishings and views.
We had the BEST stay with Phillip and Debbie! We came to Edinburgh for our honeymoon and the Garden Apt was the PERFECT place for us to relax and call home for 5 days. It is very close to Leith and all the goodies there, and less than 20 mins to get up into the heart of the city and see the sights. It was very comfortable and we felt at home immediately! Phillip and Debbie were the best hosts and we look forward to staying with them again when we come back to Edinburgh. We have already recommended it as THE PLACE to stay to all our friends and family. You will be comfortable and happy staying here and will honestly not want to leave.
We had a wonderful stay in Edinburgh which was enhanced by staying at Pilrig House in the Garden Apartment. The apartment was absolutely beautiful. Everything you could wish for in self-catering accommodation, definitely 5- star. Philip and Debbie manage to be the ideal hosts, there when you need them and not when you don’t. Full of knowledge about the city and the surrounding area.
My stay at Pilrig was wonderful. Everything is maintained to the highest of standards. Useful travel information was readily available. I needed to be able to complete some work and had no trouble with internet connectivity. As it worked out, I was there during the Edinburgh Festival and stayed in and around the city for my entire stay. I walked to and from the home and festival sites and also walked down to the waterside. The pictures and description are spot-on, and I would highly recommend Pilrig House. There’s plenty to explore. Pilrig makes a comfortable, soothing respite. Thank you Debbie and Philip!
We stayed in the Balfour Apartment for three nights. Debbie and Philip are the most gracious hosts and we enjoyed meeting them very much. The apartment is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and contains everything you could possibly need. I felt truly pampered with all of the beautiful tea, flowers, fresh fruit, special soaps and of course the whisky!! It is comfortable and peaceful while still being close to the city. We loved that we could leave the car at the apartment and explore the city without the hastle of parking.
We spent 6 nights at Pilrig House and found it to be the best accommodation we have come across in all our travels. The whole experience was first-class and nothing was missed or done cheaply by the owners. The location is great for both the trendy restaurants in Leith and the sights in Central Edinburgh.
Beautiful clean apartment. Debbie and Philip have thought of everything, from the robes and slippers to the crystal decanter of whisky! There is nothing bad to say about this wonderful place and we can hardly wait to return.
My stay at Pilrig House was absolutely perfect. The location is great. Quietly secluded, yet close to both the city centre and the shore. The Garden Apartment was lovely and included everything I needed for my stay... and more! Debbie and Philip have done a wonderful job of anticipating what guests will require during their stay. They are a lovely, charming couple who know Scotland very well.
My friend and I stayed in the Garden Apartment of Pilrig House. This was a quiet apartment in an easily accessible and beautiful location. The apartment had everything we would ever want and all in classic style. Very near are shops, a grocery, and bus stops. We discussed our stay and were unable to think of anything we were missing. We plan on using this apartment when we return each year. I do suggest booking far in advance as this is a much sought after rental.
Quite apart from the impeccably appointed apartment, the most unforgettable aspect of our stay was the genuine helpfulness that Philip and Debbie Martin offered. Their warm welcome is not matched anywhere else.
We stayed at the Park Apartment in Pilrig House for our honeymoon. The house was fantastic, and Debbie and Philip had clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that every small detail had been thought of. I had contacted Debbie in advance, and she had been kind enough to arrange for a bottle of champagne and a bunch of flowers on arrival. Debbie had also bought some essentials in case we didn’t want to go shopping straight away.
Both Debbie and her husband were so welcoming. The apartment was perfect and charming. Also well located to everything we wanted to do in Edinburgh. The reservation gave us complimentary entry to the "Scotch Whisky Club" which had two locations and was fantastic! Would highly recommend Pilrig House for its location, the warmth and knowledge of Debbie and her husband and the value.
Debbie and Philip are the most gracious hosts. The apartment is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and contains everything you could possibly need. I felt truly pampered with all of the beautiful tea, flowers, fresh fruit, special soaps and of course the whisky!!
Outstanding accommodation. Lovely rooms and furnishings. Quiet and peaceful (with car parking!). Wonderful extra touches. Warm, cosy rooms and very friendly helpful owners. We highly recommend this wonderful accommodation.
Pilrig House is the perfect place to stay - luxurious and spotlessly clean. It has a touch of history you can almost feel. Close enough to the city centre to walk yet in a tranquil parkland setting. Debbie and Philip are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble. We would recommend Pilrig without hesitation.
When we arrived we felt as though we stepped back in time with the beautifully restored Pilrig House situated in Pilrig Park. The apartment met all of our needs and offered many extras to assist with our first visit to Edinburgh. Debbie and Phillip add all of the perfect personal touches to make you feel as though you are their most important guest. It was a perfect stay in a beautiful city!
When we arrived at our apartment and opened the door - we were simply awed! A 5-star rating should be given here not only for the best amenities in the Country but the most friendly, helpful, "give the shirt off their back for you" proprietors. I have stayed in many a hotel and B&B, including Bahama’s ATLANTIS HOTEL!! THERE ISN’T EVEN ONE 5-STAR HOTEL WHO CAN BEAT PILRIG HOUSE.
Staying here was absolutely grand. Pilrig House offers the best of modern conveniences but maintains it’s old world charm. The best part about staying here is the hospitality. Debbie and Phillip are outgoing, friendly and extraordinarily catering to whatever comes up. We couldn’t recommend a better place to spend your vacation in an amazing city.
My wife and I spent three wonderful days in Edinburgh in February. Pilrig House was everything we had been hoping for. A great location led to travelling around the city being a snap. We can’t express our appreciation to Philip and Debbie enough for their hospitality. Philip was nice enough to show us around the city upon our arrival. To those reading this who are seriously considering accomidations in Edinburgh; you need to stop and email Debbie and Philip right now. You’ll be glad you did.
I spent four nights at Pilrig House, and it truly was a magical experience. I knew it would be special but from the moment I walked through the front door the apartment exceeded all of my expectations. Absolutely everything was thought of right down to a torch on the keyring, perfect for coming home late at night. There was nothing more we could have asked for during our stay and the wonderful edition of two hosts so willing to share their knowledge of the area only adds to the experience. The photos do not do this wonderful apartment justice, you really do have to see it for yourself.
When is a self-catering flat a home? When you’re at Pilrig House! Every detail is attended to…We had the unique pleasure of enjoying the extraordinary hospitality of Pilrig House’s Debbie and Philip Martin. We are already looking forward to our next visit and will definitely be back at Pilrig House. Being able to enjoy such superlative accommodation in such a splendid city made our first visit to Edinburgh a truly memorable one. The apartment was immaculate and fully equipped - everything and more was at our fingertips and the beautiful city of Edinburgh was just outside our front door. Pilrig’s central, albeit quiet location, in a park setting - made for quick and easy access to the surrounding city. We would urge all those looking for accommodation in Edinburgh to contact Pilrig House first - it is a cherished treasure in a remarkable city.
- Robert and Lucia Stephenson
It goes without saying (as you may see by reading the other comments) that Pilrig is wonderfully comfortable, beautifully styled and incredibly convenient to Edinburgh. But it offers so much more than that! What did we love about the apartment? Lazing on the window seat, watching the comings and goings in the park. Sitting on the sun warmed steps, with a cup of tea and a book. Lying in bed, in the dark, with the sash window open, listening to the wind in the tree, just beyond. Very long, luxurious baths, in the beautiful bathroom, using the lovely toiletries provided. The wonderful, welcoming, happy "feel" of the place. Above and beyond all else, the loveliest asset of Pilrig House Apartment is its owners. Philip and Debbie are 100% dedicated to making their guests feel happy and welcome. They are extremely generous with their time and fascinating local knowledge. We owe them great thanks for, undoubtedly, one of the best holidays we have had. There is no question that we shall return.
We have stayed in many self-catering places on three continents and this one is - without doubt - the finest of all. It is most attractively furnished and impeccably equipped. Debbie and Philip have thought of absolutely everything and are delightful hosts. We echo each and every one of the previous positive comments by other fortunate tenants. We wish we could have spent longer. The location is ideal as the parkside setting provides welcome tranquillity in the middle of this beautiful, but busy city yet it is just a few minutes’ walk from the frequent bus service into town. Pilrig House is fascinating, given its illustrious history and Debbie and Philip give so generously of their time and knowledge. The membership in Edinburgh’s Scotch Malt Whisky Society is a superb extra! We are recommending this spot to everyone we know and hope to return very soon.
We are experienced travellers, used to the finer things in life... We had the absolute pleasure of staying three days at Pilrig House. Wonderfully appointed, completely outfitted, warm hospitality, friendly hosts, convenient location, charmingly decorated...all in all, a pleasant surprise, and one place we’d recommend to anyone.
Debbie and Philip, Our vacation to England, Wales, Scotland and France was just wonderful. We stayed in 7 different establishments, from hotels to cottages to apartments to flats. Most were OK, and one or two were just satisfactory. However, one stood out as exquisite, that was Pilrig House. Please accept our highest praise for a lovely apartment, clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable beds, wonderful park setting etc., etc. Also our thanks to both of you for your kindness and help in making our Edinburgh stay perfect. While this was our first European experience with a rental of this type, we have rented many times in the US, and Pilrig ranks tops with us. Our very best to both of you and thanks again.
We stayed in the Garden Apartment and it was a fabulous break. Debbie and Phil couldn’t have been more welcoming and they really did think of everything, including guided tours of Edinburgh. The property itself was immaculate and so peaceful. The accommodation was equipped with everything you could possibly need. We wanted to stay much, much longer. We loved sitting watching the squirrels right outside the window, we could have been in the middle of the country not within walking distance of a major city centre! It was a fantastic, enjoyable break and we hope to return very soon. Truly a fantastic place to stay.
We stayed at Pilrig House in July. It was great. Apart from the facts mentioned (the welcome, the chocolates, the coffee and tea, the whisky, the flowers, the fruit (!)) there were the owners. Debbie and Philip really try to do their utmost to ensure a pleasant stay. They are extremely helpful and kind. The house is a treasure; it’s charming and an invitation to relaxation.
What can I say! What a treasure of a place to stay in! Our trip to Edinburgh in June was for my daughter’s wedding and we wanted somewhere special to stay for the occasion. We couldn’t have asked for more (except perhaps better weather!). This place is really a home from home and the attention to detail is incredible. The ’personal touches’ were amazing, fresh fruit, chocolates, shortbread, whisky, fresh flowers... the list goes on! Pilrig Park gives the feeling that you are in the countryside, yet you are only a 10- minute bus ride from the city centre with its beautiful historic buildings and all the attractions of this marvellous city! Secure car parking is a real benefit as you can safely leave your car and take advantage of the excellent public transport without the hassle of driving! I will certainly recommend this beautiful apartment to anyone looking to visit Edinburgh!
Words fail me in describing how wonderful our stay was. From the moment we arrived, we felt as though we were home. All the comforts were provided from fresh flowers and chocolates to milk and fruit. Maps and brochures of things to see and do in Edinburgh as well as personal recommendations made our stay perfect. Debbie and Phillip were more than just hosts - they became friends. We recommend this apartment to everyone we meet and can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Scotland!
I cannot say I have had a similar experience as a guest in any type of accommodation - Pilrig House is tops! The house itself is a fascinating piece of history, having been built from the ruins of an old fort nearby. The owners, Debbie and Philip, became instant friends and provided far more than our every need - fresh strawberries and tasty scotch were left for our arrival! The house is outfitted with all the travel guides, maps, and all else you could ever want. We were even treated to a guided tour of Edinburgh. We’ll be back for sure!
Stopped off here to break our journey home from Skye – what a fantastic find! We have stayed in many self-catering cottages, etc. – this is by far the nicest in every way. Everything is perfect. It’s been a pleasure to meet you both. What Philip doesn’t know about Edinburgh isn’t worth knowing. Nothing was too much trouble. See you soon!! A really big THANK YOU.
It’s been so relaxing – just wish we were staying longer! What a wonderful place to celebrate my birthday – very memorable.
Philip and Debbie are the best hosts anywhere! So much to say in so little space… great accommodation, supportive hosts who care, charming and entertaining… we’ll be back! We also are very sad to leave. Thank you.
We have had a wonderful time in Edinburgh and we are already making plans to come back. A large part thanks to your generosity and hospitality Debbie and Philip – the flat is just perfect, everything you could want… you have been so kind, and we have felt very much at home – thank you so much.
- Tony Lynch & Julie-Anne Lee
Katarina and Henrietta say this is fantastic. We have had a stay that will be fondly remembered in years to come. Scotland and Pilrig are a second home. Thank you Philip and Debbie for everything.
- Stephen, Katerina & Henrietta
We really enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh. Monique and I used to do walking trips in England, during which we met quite a lot of wonderful and friendly hosts at the various bed and breakfasts we stayed at. You have positioned yourselves at the top of the premier league of the ‘best hosts’.
- Gerrit and Monique Reijnders
Rolls Royce accommodation combined with the wonderful Edinburgh attractions made this a superb break.
The best self-catering apartment ever! Such painstaking attention to all possible comforts, and charming hosts. Lovely. Thank you.
How do you improve on perfection? The Ritz isn’t as good as Pilrig House! Hotels are so impersonal. The flowers, the fruit, the candy made us feel like family at Pilrig. Magical – a word to describe Pilrig House. If I ever run away they shall find me here! Thanks for a great adventure Debbie & Philip. There are no words to describe what you have created for your visitors.
It is with a heavy heart we leave you this day. Our stay here has made all the difference to us… most delicious of all, you sweet Debbie & Philip. Every entry in this book speaks volumes – we lodgers ones of so many, but you… 2 in a million. Much love, good cheer, we raise our glasses to you until that day we shall meet you again. PS The apartments were fabulous too!
- Jude, Rex, Adam Blumenthall
Thank you for everything. It’s the best place in the world. We had an incredible holiday here. You are the BEST.
- Tania, Sasha, Lana Bulatova
Delightful accommodation – all mod cons combined with the grace and charm of a bygone age.
We have enjoyed the flat so much – so very comfortable and charming, and with absolutely everything one could want – to say nothing of the hospitality of you both. Pilrig House has come a long way from the 1700s, when my great, great, great, great, great grandfather, James Balfour lived here.
Exquisite – the apartment, the treats, the hosts and Edinburgh itself – a fabulous finale for our trip to Scotland! Many thanks.
Thank you for allowing me to stay in such wonderful accommodation. Your attention to detail made this a home away from home. My favourite part has been watching the wildlife from the window.
Thank you for you wonderful hospitality. We especially appreciated your thoughtfulness when you helped us with our ‘late arrival’. As others have noted in these pages, you have made Pilrig House ‘special’ with your warmth, humour, great tips and helpful advice. Your insights are matched with your attention to detail making our apartment comfortable, homey, special...
Pilrig House is a beautiful home with amazing amenities provided by hosts, Debbie and Philip. You are greeted by your hosts when you arrive to welcome you into your lovely flat. Debbie provides wonderful treats, fruits, and beverages to greet you upon arrival.
The flat is immaculate, the towels and linens are luxurious, and the bed is so comfortable, you don’t want to get out in the morning. The gardens are incredible with flowers and the park has lovely walking trails. Edinburgh Castle, botanical gardens, and Holyrood are all within walking distance or if you don’t want to walk, public transportation is also available.
Debbie and Philip are available to help answer any questions and have a lot of maps and information in the flat for the visitor - they try to think of everything to make your trip more enjoyable and relaxing. Between suggestions for restaurants to farmer’s markets to shopping and everything in between, your hosts have tried to think of everything to make your holiday special. They also have someone (Mike) who can pick you up at the airport, drive you around the city, or provide tours. If you want a tour prior to or after staying at the Pilrig House, I highly recommend hiring Mike. I hired Mike for a 5 day private tour prior to arriving at the Pilrig House. Mike create a tour around my requests…. castles, scenery, and walking trails. Mike was extremely accommodating and flexible during the private tour. I suggest you work with Debbie to arrange any lodging during the tours with MIke…. she has great suggestions. I will hire Mike again when I return to Edinburgh. He provided an amazing unforgettable tour of the west coast of Scotland, Isle of Sky, and the Highlands and Roslyn Chapel.
Pilrig House has thought of everything you can possibly want/need when you arrive. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Debbie and Philip… they are true gems. I plan on many more visits to Scotland and Pilrig House.
